This is Dr. Kempen with a patient who came to the Discovery Eye Center at MCM in Addis Ababa.
She was referred to Dr. Kempen and Dr. Emebet, who diagnosed her sudden onset of Vogt-Koyanagi Harada Disease, which turns out to be relatively frequent in Ethiopia, though it is said not to affect Africans. After prompt, appropriate treatment, her eyes went from having bilateral exudative retinal detachments with severe inflammation, to now having minimal signs from the incident. At this follow-up visit a few days later, this patient now has normal vision in both eyes and is in remission.
